RNY Gastric Bypass

RNY gastric bypass re-routes your food so that it goes from the top part of your stomach into the small intestine. It bypasses the first bit of intestine.  The re-routing of the intestine, makes it look like a Y. Talk directly to Dr. Simpson and learn more about your options; our practice is convenient to Santa Barbara, Malibu, and Ventura County.

Who is a candidate for gastric bypass surgery?
Patients’ suitability is evaluated on an individual basis. In general, though, gastric bypass surgery is reserved for individuals who have a body mass index (BMI) that is greater than 40, and who have previously been unsuccessful in losing weight through diet and exercise. Sometimes patients with a lower BMI — between 35 to 39.9 — who have serious, weight-related health concerns, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), may also be considered viable candidates.

Some insurance companies do not cover weight loss (bariatric) surgery. If yours does not, and you wish to have weight loss surgery, we offer the most competitive cash prices in the US. While we cannot compete with Mexico cash prices, we can offer your surgery in a Center of Excellence, complete with post operative follow up using video or phone and the knowledge that the people taking care of you meet the highest standards in the world. Along with weight loss, gastric bypass surgery can resolve or improve other weight-related health conditions, such as:

  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Severe sleep apnea
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Risk of a stroke
  • Degenerative joint disease

What to Expect After Gastric Bypass Surgery.

The first ten days are full liquids, second ten days are soft foods, and by the 21st day you are on small amounts of food that you will gradually introduce back into your diet. You will notice feeling full very quickly after eating about two or three tablespoons of food. We recommend that you take nutritional supplements.

We want you to keep coming back so that we can help you as you rebuild your diet. Our practice is conveniently located to serve all of Ventura County, Malibu, Santa Barbara and the greater Los Angeles areas. The first couple of years after surgery are a key time for us to help you. This is a critical time that we use to help you adjust to your new anatomy and your new tastes. Within the first two years, you can expect to lose one-half to two-thirds of your excess body weight. Weight loss will continue, in most cases, for a year and a half before reaching a plateau.
